The world's oldest operating carousel is the Vermolen Boden-Karussel at Efteling Theme Park in Kaatsheuvel, The Netherlands, which was built in 1865. It was originally pulled by horses in the centre, but was later restored and is now electrically driven.
The original ride featured decorations by Andreas Giezen, horses by Joseph Hübner and a gondola by Frederick Heyn. It originally travelled throughout northern Europe.
