On ‘International Chess Day’ in Biel Switzerland which was also the 100th anniversary of the International Chess Federation, a new Guinness World Records title was set: 'Most games of chess played in 24 hours'

The measurement included games played online and OTB ‘over the board’ worldwide from this one event within 24 hours on 20 July 2024.

The 63 tournaments worldwide all followed the FIDE Laws of Chess and Regulations, using the standard FIDE time control (not less than 3min+2sec increment per player) and Sofia rule (avoiding early draws).
