The fastest circumnavigation sailing solo in a monohull is 74 days 3 hours 35 minutes and was achieved by Armel Le Cléac’h (France) in his yacht Banque Populaire VIII, winning the 2016/17 Vendée Globe single-handed yacht race, starting and finishing at Les Sables d'Olonne, France, from 6 November 2016 to 19 January 2017.

Le Cléac'h averaged 15.43 knots (17.76 mph; 28.58 km/h) over the 27,455 nautical miles (31,594.59 miles; 50,846.66 km) he sailed, with his best 24-hour run on 16 January, when Banque Populaire VIII covered 524.11 nautical miles (603.13 miles; 970.65 km) averaging 21.8 knots (25.09 mph; 40.37 km/h), surpassed only by British sailor Alex Thomson who, on the same day, sailed 536.81 nautical miles (617.75 miles; 994.17 km) averaging 22.36 knots (25.73 mph; 41.41 km/h), and setting a new 24-hour single-handed monohull record.
