On 8 November 2024, Taylor Swift (USA) collected the seventh Album of the Year nomination of her career at the Grammy Awards, for The Tortured Poets Department (2024). Her latest success broke a tie with Barbra Streisand, whose six nominations were received in 1964–67, 1981 and 1987. Previously, Swift had been nominated for Fearless in 2010, Red in 2014, 1989 in 2016, Folklore in 2021, Evermore in 2022 and Midnights in 2024, winning Album of the Year for Fearless, 1989, Folklore and Midnights.

No recording artist – male or female – can match Swift’s four Album of the Year wins, although engineer/mixer Șerban Ghenea is the most decorated individual overall, having won five Album of the Year trophies, for his work on Swift’s 1989, Folklore and Midnights, Adele’s 25 (2017) and Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic (2018).

Streisand stands alone as the female artist with the most consecutive Album of the Year nominations (four, in 1964–67).

Swift has now picked up four nominations in the last five years (2021–22 and 2024–25), and the recently female-dominated category has seen multiple nominations for Brandi Carlile (2019 and 2023), H.E.R. (2019–20 and 2022), Janelle Monáe (2019 and 2024), Billie Eilish (2020, 2022 and 2025), Lizzo (2020 and 2023), Lana Del Rey (2022 and 2024), Olivia Rodrigo (2022 and 2024) and Beyoncé (2023 and 2025).

Overall, Paul McCartney (nine, including five with The Beatles), George Harrison (eight, including five with The Beatles) and Frank Sinatra (eight) are the leading Album of the Year nominees.
