Hazel Monét (USA, b. 21 February 2021), the daughter of US singer/songwriter Victoria Monét (b. Victoria Monét McCants), was 2 years 262 days old when she received a Grammy nomination on 10 November 2023 for her contribution to “Hollywood”, a track on her mother’s debut studio album Jaguar II (2023). Credited as a featured artist – alongside Earth, Wind & Fire – for a cheeky laugh in the final few seconds of the song, Hazel made the shortlist for Best Traditional R&B Performance in a category that also includes nine-time nominee SZA (“Love Language”) and R&B legend Babyface (“Simple”, featuring Coco Jones).
The toddler’s vocals also landed her a co-writing credit as Hazel Monét Gaines, alongside Victoria Monét, Dernst Emile II (aka “D’Mile”) and Timothy Murdock Suby.
Hazel would become the youngest-ever Grammy winner (individual or as part of a group), at the age of 2 years 348 days, if “Hollywood” wins Best Traditional R&B Performance at the 66th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California, USA, on 4 February 2024. The city’s iconic “Hollywood Sign” landmark in the Santa Monica Mountains will provide some free publicity for the track in the lead-up to the ceremony.
