Virat Kohli (India) retained the highest batting average in T20 International (T20I) history – 48.69 runs per innings – as of 24 February 2026. He retired from the T20I scene after India’s victory at the T20 World Cup in June 2024, but his 4,188 runs in 117 innings (125 matches) have stood the test of time.

Kohli’s T20I record includes 38 fifties and a top score of 122 not out (his only three-figure score), a 61-ball blitz against Afghanistan in the T20 Asia Cup on 8 September 2022.

The prolific opener made his T20I debut on 12 June 2010, against Zimbabwe, hitting 26 not out when batting at No.5.
