Kanellos Kanellopoulos (Greece) kept his Daedalus 88 aircraft aloft for 3 hr 54 min 59 sec on 23 April 1988 whilst pedalling the 115.11 km (71.93 miles) between Heraklion, Crete, and the Greek island of Santorini. His flight ended prematurely when an offshore wind gust broke off the plane's tail and it crashed into the sea a few meters from shore.
The aircraft weighed just 31 kg (69 lb).
