The City Varieties Music Hall, Leeds, UK opened in 1865 as Thornton's Music Hall and Fashionable Lounge, but was later re-named, playing host to among others, Charlie Chaplin, Lily Langtry, Bud Flanagan and Houdini to a capcity of 500.
The site the music hall stands on has been a popular venue for entertainment since the 18th Century. Used as the home of the BBC's Good Old Days, the City Varieties holds a twice yearly traditional music hall season, with the rest of the year playing host to a variety of performances including light opera, hypnosis and stand-up comics.
