The largest tripod orchard ladder measures 9.19 m. (30 ft. 2 in.) from top to bottom and was built by Dwane Dickinson of Summerland, British Columbia, Canada. Conventional orchard ladders are used for fruitpicking. The idea behind Dwane's outsize model was to lure curious tourists off the nearby highway and onto his fruit stand. He'd been thinking of an idea for years until the idea of a giant orchard ladder came along. The ladder stands well above the treetops. It is said to feel secure by people climbing it and the view of the orchard from the top is "pretty good."
