The world's longest Via Crucis is located in the province of Formosa (Argentina) and it runs for a record 501 km. The first Station of the Cross is in the city of Formosa (capital of the province) and the last one on the border with the province of Salta. The 14 7m tall crosses that form the "Via Crucis Formoseño" are made of Palo Santo and Quebracho trees, two typical hardwood species from the area. All crosses are by the No. 81 provincial motorway and were made to "promote peace in a province born out of a number of Civil Wars".
