Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor (formerly Magda Davitt; known as Shuhada' Sadaqat since 2018) won the RTÉ Choice Music Prize’s (CMP) inaugural Classic Irish Album award – for I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got (1990) – at Vicar Street in Dublin, Ireland, on 9 March 2023. The album, which includes the No.1 single “Nothing Compares 2 U”, was described by the CMP’s judging panel as “a stunning body of work, scorching with originality in songs that are as resonant today as they were more than 30 years ago”.

O’Connor (b. 8 December 1966) died in July 2023 at the age of 56. She collected her Classic Irish Album award in person. It was to be her last public appearance.
