Diede de Groot (Netherlands) captured her 15th consecutive wheelchair singles title at The Wimbledon Championships in London, UK, on 13 July 2024. Her remarkable winning streak began at the 2021 Australian Open and featured back-to-back calendar-year Grand Slams in 2021–23. She also won all three of the wheelchair singles majors played in 2024. De Groot’s latest singles triumph – her sixth on the grass at SW19 – saw her come through 6–4, 6–4 against compatriot and doubles partner Aniek van Koot. De Groot’s hard-fought victory on No.1 Court was her 23rd major singles title since 2017.

As of 13 July 2024, de Groot, 27, had won 23 of the 30 Grand Slam wheelchair singles tournaments she’d contested during her career, with 10 consecutive final appearances (2017–19) preceding her 15 back-to-back titles in 2021–24.

Dutch master Esther Vergeer won every wheelchair singles tournament she contested at Grand Slam level – 21, in 2002–12 – but she was absent from the Australian Open in 2005 and 2010, reducing her longest winning run to 11 consecutive major singles tournaments (2005–09).

De Groot was denied the opportunity to make it 24 Grand Slam wheelchair singles titles (and a fourth consecutive calendar-year Grand Slam featuring all four major tournaments) when the senior wheelchair competitions at the 2024 US Open were cancelled due to scheduling conflicts with the Paralympic Games in Paris, France.

With victory over van Koot, the world No.1 secured her 162nd competitive match win from 164 matches played since February 2021, a sequence that included a winning streak of 145 matches before her 3–6, 2–6 loss to China’s Li Xiaohui at the World Team Cup on 11 May 2024.
