The first solo unsupported South Pole ski expedition from an outer coastline by a female was achieved by Anja Blacha (Germany), who travelled from north Berkner Island to the South Pole in Antarctica over 57 days 18 hours between 12 November 2019 and 9 January 2020.

Withstanding 100-km/h (60-mph) winds and temperatures as low as -35°C (-31°F), Blacha skied 1,381 km (858 mi) to the pole, pulling her 100-kg (330-lb) sledge. At the time, this represented the longest solo unsupported polar ski journey by a woman.
