As of the end of the 2013 World Championships, two male fencers have won six individual world fencing titles. The first was Christian D'Oriola (France) who won the foil title in 1947, 1949, 1952–54 and 1956. Stanislav Pozdniakov (Russia) matched his achievement in 2007 with sabre wins in 1996–97, 2001–02 and 2006–07. Christian D'Oriola's achievement includes two Olympic gold medals, one in Helsinki, Finland, in 1952 and the other in Melbourne, Australia, in 1956. Pozdniakov won one Olympic gold in Atlanta, USA, in 1996.
