By the end of 2023 (w/c 25 December), Novak Djokovic (Serbia) had spent 405 weeks at the top of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) world rankings – a spot he reclaimed on 11 September of that year by winning a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam singles title at the US Open.

Djokovic first rose to No.1 on 4 July 2011, at the age of 24, and spent more than a decade inside the Top 10 (March 2007 to October 2017). He returned to the Top 10 on 16 July 2018 and has remained there ever since, culminating in a 10th journey to the rankings summit – at the age of 36, 12 years after his first reign – after defeating Daniil Medvedev in New York.

On 6 February 2023, Djokovic surpassed Steffi Graf’s overall professional record of 377 weeks at No.1, between 1987 and 1997, to become the singles player with the most weeks at the top of the ATP or WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) rankings. His year-end No.1 ATP ranking in 2023 also extended Djokovic’s record for the most Player of the Year awards won – eight (2011-12, 2014-15, 2018, 2020-21 and 2023).
