The most amateur World Cycling Championship titles won by a man is seven and is shared by Daniel Morelon (France) in the sprint event in 1966, 1967, 1969-71, 1973 and 1975; and Leon Meredith (United Kingdom) in the 100-km motor-paced event in 1904, 1905, 1907-09, 1911 and 1913.
World Championships are contested annually. They were first staged for amateurs in 1893 and for professionals in 1895. In 1991 the amateur events were ended at the UCI World Championships with professionals and amateurs now competing together.
