Longest cable car beneath sea level

The 1,328.73-m-long (4,359-ft),12-cabin Jericho cable car connects Elisha's Spring with the Mount of Temptation, Jericho, Palestine. The lower station is 219.86 m (721 ft 3 in) below sea level, the upper station is 50.29 m (164 ft 11 in) below sea level.

The Mount of Temptation is reputedly the place where Christ fasted for 40 days and 40 nights and was tempted by the devil. A Byzantine monastery is located nearby. Previously tourists had to spend an hour ascending the Mount, the cable car takes them there in five minutes. The $10-million Jericho cable car was installed by a Swiss-Austrian firm and is operated by the Téléphérique and Sultan Tourist Center.
