The most Tony award nominations for a play is 13 for Stereophonic by US playwright David Adjmi, as announced on 30 April 2024. The play, which tells the story of a rock band struggling to record its second album, won five awards, for Best Play, Direction, Featured Actor, Scenic Design and Sound Design.
Stereophonic made its debut off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons in 2023 before transferring to Broadway's John Golden Theatre in 2024. The 13 Tony nominations beat the record held by Jeremy O. Harris's Slave Play (2020), which received 12.
