Largest film budget for make-up

A total of US$1 million (then £345, 542) was budgeted for Planet of the Apes (US 1968), which represented nearly 17% of the total production cost of US$5.8 million  (£2,004,146). A team of 78 make-up artists worked under the direction of Fox's make-up specialist John Chambers, who won a special Oscar for his remarkable achievement of creating wholly credible ape faces sufficiently mobile to register the full range of human emotions.
