The German comedian and character actor Curt Bois (1901 - 1991), who made his film debut at the age of seven in Der Fidele Bauer (1908), had a film career lasting 79 years, with his final role being as 'Homer' in Der Himmel über Berlin (English title Wings of Desire Ger 1987).
Bois left Germany in 1933 on the acession of the Nazis and made his way to the USA via Prague, Vienna, London and Paris. He went to new York to star in a stage play which closed after only one night and then onto Hollywood in 1938.
He appeared in such notable films as Casablanca (US 1942) and Caught (US 1949), before returning to Berlin in the early fifties.
