The fastest assisted stage swim of the length of Great Britain by a woman is 109 days 55 minutes, achieved by Jasmine Harrison (UK), who swam up the west coast from Land’s End to John o’Groats between 1 July and 18 October 2022. The total distance covered was around 1,040 kilometres (650 miles). The swim has been verified by the World Open Water Swimming Association.
Harrison departed Land's End at 3.30 p.m. on 1 July and arrived at John o'Groats at about 4.30 p.m. on 18 October.
Throughout "The Full Length" challenge, Harrison was accompanied by a support crew on a Bavaria 38 yacht named Crews Control, which she boarded between swims to rest and eat. In the water, she was often joined by a kayaker as an added safety precaution. She wore a full neoprene wetsuit, socks, gloves and mask to mitigate as much as possible against jellyfish stings, though some baby jellyfish were small enough to enter her mouth and sting her!
Her longest single swim stage lasted for 12 hours and the greatest distance she covered in one day was 27 nautical mi (31 mi; 50 km).
Harrison is also the first woman to ever swim this route. Only two men had previously made this swim: Ross Edgley in 2018 (in a time of 61 days, as part of his unprecedented circumnavigation stage swim around Great Britain) and Sean Conway in 2013.
