Most expensive film produced (adult genre)

Caligula (It/USA 1980) directed by Tinto Brass and produced by Franco Rossellini and Bob Guccione,  was made at a cost of US$17.5 million (£7, 517,182).  Starring Malcolm McDowell, Helen Mirren and Peter O'Tool, the film showed extreme close-ups of graphic sex and has since become one of the best-selling adult film titles of all time.

The 156 minute long film was re-released in DVD in 1999 to mark its 20th anniversary.
