According to estimates published by Forbes on 9 February 2022, the highest-earning music group of 2021 was the Red Hot Chili Peppers (USA), who reportedly earned $116 million (£86 million) in that calendar year.
Red Hot Chili Peppers sold their back-catalogue, including hit song "Californication", to London music investment fund Hipgnosis.
They secured the 11th place in Forbes' "Highest-Paid Entertainers" list, which was topped by film director Peter Jackson on $580 m (£429.9 m). The next highest-earning music group on the list (in 22nd place) was American heavy-metal band Mötley Crüe with estimated earnings of $72 m (£53.4 m) also from selling much of their back-catalogue including hits such as "Girls, Girls, Girls" and "Kickstart My Heart".
