The International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award carries a prize of €100,000 (£67,290). Contenders for the prize are nominated by public libraries in capitals and major cities around the world, with each institution entitled to put three novels forward each year.

If the prize is awarded to a book translated into English, the author receives €75,000 (£50,467) and the translator €25,000 (£16,822).

The award is a joint initiative of Dublin Corporation, the Municipal Government of Dublin City, and the productivity improvement company IMPAC. The award is administered by Dublin Corporation Public Libraries.

The 2003 award was won by Orhan Pamuk (Turkey) for My Name is Redm translated from Turkish by Erdaq M. Göknar. He won from a shortlist of eight. The winner also receives a trophy which is sponsored by Waterfrod Crystal
