Most popular meat

With 80 million tonnes produced a year, pork is the world's most popular meat, representing 40% of total meat consumption. Half of the world's pork is produced in China, with the US, the European Union and Japan among the largest producers. It is the only red meat sector to have grown (10%) over the decade 1988-97. Total production is expected to reach 90 million tonnes by 2001. Pigs were first domesticated around 7000 BC.
