Pietrangeli (b. 1933) played 164 times for his country at the Davis Cup, across 66 ties and 18 years. His win-loss record was 78–32 for singles and 42–12 for doubles. He captained the Italian Davis Cup team in 1976, when they won their only title to date. Pietrangeli won four Grand Slam titles during his career, all of them at the French Open: singles in 1959–60, doubles (with Sirola) in 1959 and mixed doubles (with Shirley Bloomer) in 1958.
