On 10 August 1999, the Mega-Float island was opened to the public at Yokosuka Port, Tokyo Bay, Tokyo, Japan. The steel-built structure measures 1,000 m (3,280 ft 10 in) in length, 121 m (397 ft) wide and 3 m (9 ft 10 in) deep.
The interior is hollow and in addition to giving the Mega-Float its buoyant properties, can also be used to store various goods in the event of a disaster.
