The longest polar ultramarathon completed on foot (female) is 1,402.21 km (871.29 mi) and was achieved by Donna Urquhart (Australia) on the Union Glacier, Antarctica, between 15 December 2023 and 14 January 2024. The first woman to ever attempt a record such as this in Antarctica, Donna averaged 50 km (31 mi) per day over 28 running days.
Donna achieved this feat with the Run Antarctica team to launch a campaign with the goal of raising awareness of the high dropout rate of teenage girls from sport and to raise funds for a number of sport charities to help increase female participation. Donna’s run was aimed at inspiring others to push boundaries, explore what is possible for them and advocating for a holistic approach to sport with a focus on mental skills training.
