The smallest 3D-printed sculpture of a percussion instrument is 47,000 nm (47 microns), and was achieved by Georges Adam (Brazil), David Cappelleri and Aaron Davis (both USA), in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA, on 22 September 2023.
Georges, David and Aaron made their attempt at Purdue University, whose band is known for its large bass drum, called the World's Largest Drum.
After acquiring a 3D printer capable of printing very tiny structures, they decided to try and print the World's Smallest Drum (WSD) to go along with the World's Largest Drum.
