Amazon.com, founded in 1994 by Jeff Bezos (USA), opened its virtual doors in July 1995 and, by 9 October 2015, had an estimated 270 million active buyers worldwide, according to Forbes.
With a reported net revenue (sales) of $107 billion (£72.1 billion) for the year 2015, Amazon is also the largest online shop overall by revenue, according to Forbes.
