The longest distance ice swim in polar regions is 3.03 km (1.88 mi) completed by Krzysztof Gajewski (Poland) in Stornes near Hansnes on the island of Ringvassøya, Troms, Norway, on 6 April 2025, as verified by the International Ice Swimming Association.

The average water temperature was 3.89°C (39°F) and the swim duration was 56 minutes 52 seconds.

This surpassed the previous record of 2.5 km (1.55 mi) completed by "Ice Mermaid" Bárbara Hernández Huerta (Chile) in Chile Bay, aka Discovery Bay (latitude 62.29° S), off Greenwich Island, South Shetland Islands, on 5 February 2023.

Gajewski also currently holds the record for the longest distance ice swim overall: 6 km (3.7 mi) in a lake at Czarna Góra Resort near Sienna, Poland, on 19 April 2023.

As per IISA rules, all ice swims must take place in water that is below 5°C (41°F) and the swimmer may wear only a swimsuit, cap and goggles. A polar ice swim must additionally take place within either the Arctic or Antarctic circles.
