Since the birth of Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart on 20 October 2012, no female artist had replaced herself at No.1 until “BZRP Music Sessions Vol. 53” (a collaboration with the Argentinian DJ and producer Bizarrap, b. Gonzalo Julián Conde) dethroned “Monotonía” (a duet with Ozuna) on the chart dated 4 February 2023 for Shakira (Colombia, b. Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll).
Since 2020 alone, Sech, J Balvin (twice), Maluma, Myke Towers, Camilo, Farruko, Wisin and Ozuna – all male artists – have replaced themselves at the top of the Latin Airplay chart. Meanwhile, on the concurrently running, radio-airplay-only Hot Latin Songs chart (inaugurated on 6 September 1986), Shakira’s compatriot, Karol G (b. Carolina Giraldo Navarro), became the first female artist to replace herself at No.1 on 16–23 November 2019, with “China” (with Anuel AA, Daddy Yankee, Ozuna and J Balvin) and “Tusa”. She repeated the trick on 7–14 May 2022, with “Mamiii” (with Becky G) and “Provenza”.
