The most climbs of K2 (8,611 m; 28,251 ft) without the use of bottled oxygen is five by Mingma Gyabu Sherpa (Nepal), who topped the world's second-highest peak on 26 July 2014, 21 July 2018, 16 January 2021, 22 July 2022 and 28 July 2022.

Mingma David, as he is also known (b. 16 May 1989), hails from Faktalung in Nepal's Taplejung district. He also holds the record for the fastest time to climb Everest and K2, taking just 61 days 55 minutes to reach both summits back in 2018. And he was part of the all-Nepalese team that, on 16 January 2021, made the first ever ascent of K2 - the "Savage Mountain" - in winter. He was named “Sherpa of the Year” in 2019, winning the coveted Piolet d’Or Asia award - the alpinism equivalent to an Oscar.
