First awarded in 1959, the Grammys’ prestigious Album of the Year category had been contested by almost 350 different albums as of the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in 2023. On 15 November 2022, Un Verano Sin Ti by Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny (b. Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio) was revealed as the first-ever Spanish-language album to be shortlisted for the award, alongside nominations for ABBA (Voyage), Adele (30), Beyoncé (Renaissance), Mary J Blige (Good Morning Gorgeous), Brandi Carlile (In These Silent Days), Coldplay (Music of the Spheres), Kendrick Lamar (Mr Morale & the Big Steppers), Lizzo (Special) and Harry Styles (Harry’s House). Styles would go on to win the prize at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, USA, on 5 February 2023.

Un Verano Sin Ti won Best Música Urbana Album at the 65th Grammy Awards, 12 months on from winning the new category’s inaugural award – for El Último Tour Del Mundo – at the 2022 ceremony.

Un Verano Sin Ti’s opening track (and second single), “Moscow Mule”, picked up a nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance for the 65th Grammys, but lost out to Adele’s “Easy on Me”.

The rapper also opened the show with a mash-up of Un Verano Sin Ti tracks “El Apagón” and “Después de la Playa”.
