The longest breath-hold on screen (lead actor) is 7 minutes 15 seconds, achieved by Kate Winslet (UK) during filming for Avatar: The Way of Water (USA, 2022).

Winslet, who plays the Metkayina’s Ronal in the Avatar sequel, learnt to freedive with the rest of the cast in order to film their underwater scenes. Her 7-minute 15-second breath-hold beat Tom Cruise’s record of 6 minutes, which he set while filming 2015’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.
