The 91,784 tons gross Boka Vanguard is the world’s largest semi-submersible heavy-lift ship. Built as Heerema Vanguard by Hyundai Heavy Industries (KOR), Ulsan in 2013, it was acquired by Boskalis (NLD) in 2018. its huge open deck measures 275 by 79 m (902 by 259 ft) which, when the ship is ballasted down, allows structures weighing up to 117,000 metric tonnes to be floated on. Diesel-electric engines drive twin screws for a speed of 14 knots (25.93 km/h; 16.1 mph) in light condition and 12–13 knots loaded.
In 2015, it carried the 65,000-ton Floating Production, Storage and Offshore Loading Platform (FPSO) Goliat from South Korea to Norway and in 2020 transported the floating fish farm Jostein Albert from China to Norway. Measuring 385 by 59.5 m (1,263 by 195 ft), the latter is the largest item of cargo ever shipped.
