Amelia Kerr (New Zealand) took just 134 balls to bring up her 200th run – in only her 10th One-Day International (ODI) innings – against Ireland at Castle Avenue, Dublin, on 13 June 2018. In one of the most spellbinding performances ever witnessed on a cricket pitch, Kerr made 232 not out off 145 balls and then took five wickets – all bowled – for 17 runs in seven overs (7-2-17-5), and all at the tender age of 17 years 243 days.

Kerr remains the youngest player (male or female) to score a double hundred in international cricket, but her ‘fastest double hundred’ ODI record passed to India’s Ishan Kishan (126 balls) on 10 December 2022.

In Dublin, Kerr alone scored 97 runs more than the whole of the Ireland team put together as New Zealand coasted home by 305 runs. Remarkably, this was the least comprehensive of New Zealand’s three wins in the teams’ one-sided three-match series in Dublin.

The tourists wrapped up the earlier games by 347 runs and 306 runs. To date, Belinda Clark’s 229 not out for Australia against Denmark on 16 December 1997 is the only other double hundred in a women’s ODI. She faced 155 deliveries in total, but the number of balls she took to reach the 200-run milestone was not recorded.
