Left-handed opener Ishan Kishan (India) blasted 200 off just 126 balls in a One-Day International (ODI) against Bangladesh in Chattogram (Chittagong), Bangladesh, on 10 December 2022. He comfortably eclipsed the 134 balls it took New Zealand’s 17-year-old batting sensation Amelia Kerr to reach 200 against Ireland on 13 June 2018, and Chris Gayle’s 138-ball double ton against Zimbabwe at the ICC Cricket World Cup on 24 February 2015.

Kishan was eventually dismissed for 210 off 131 balls, an innings which contained 24 fours and 10 sixes and was completed at a strike rate of 160.30 runs per 100 balls faced. Kishan – aged 24 years 145 days on 10 December 2022 – was the fourth Indian batter to reach 200 in an ODI, after Sachin Tendulkar (200 not out), Rohit Sharma (209, 264 and 208 not out) and Virender Sehwag (219). The fifth Indian to achieve it, Shubman Gill on 18 January 2023, would quickly take the ‘youngest double hundred’ crown that Kishan inherited with his innings in Chattogram on 10 December 2022.
