Sakibul Gani (India) was the first player to score a triple-hundred on first-class debut when he hit 341 in Bihar’s 686 for 5 declared against Mizoram in the Ranji Trophy in Kolkata, India, on 17–18 February 2022. The 22-year-old right-hander from Motihari found the boundary rope 56 times during his mammoth 405-ball innings, but was unable to guide his team to a win in the four-day game, despite Mizoram following-on with a deficit of 358 runs.

Ajay Rohera’s 267 not out in the Ranji Trophy for Madhya Pradesh against Hyderabad at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore, India, on 6–8 December 2018 had stood as the highest innings on first-class debut. As of 27 January 2023, four of the five highest scores by a player on first-class debut had taken place on Indian soil in the Ranji Trophy, with the most recent occurrence being Suved Parkar’s 252 for Mumbai against Uttarakhand on 6–7 June 2022.
