New Zealand Women (455 for 5) thrashed Pakistan Women (47 all out) by 408 runs in a One-Day International (ODI) at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, New Zealand, on 29 January 1997. Captain Maia Lewis weighed in with 105 runs and three other players passed 50 before Pakistan were skittled by Clare Nicholson (4 for 18), Justine Fryer (3 for 8) and Julie Harris (2 for 8). More than a quarter of a century later, it remains the largest margin of victory by runs in a men’s or women’s ODI. The male record was upped to 317 runs by India against Sri Lanka on 15 January 2023.
New Zealand’s innings of 455 for 5 has been beaten by just one women’s team since 1997 – New Zealand. On 8, 10 and 13 June 2018, the White Ferns smashed Ireland all over Dublin in posting scores of 491 for 4, 418 all out and 440 for 3 (featuring Amelia Kerr’s record-shattering 232 not out), respectively, in a one-sided three-match series. Consequently, New Zealand Women have registered the four highest ODI scores in history.
