BLACKPINK singer/rapper Lisa (Thailand, b. Pranpriya Manobal) won Best K-pop Video for “LALISA” at the MTV Video Music Awards in Newark, New Jersey, USA, on 28 August 2022. The category was introduced in 2019 and had been won exclusively by BTS (2019–21) before Lisa’s intervention. BLACKPINK won the inaugural Best Metaverse Performance prize – for their in-game concert in PUBG Mobile – at the same ceremony, and the group had previously won Song of Summer for “How You Like That” in 2020.

In 2019, BLACKPINK, EXO, MONSTA X, NCT 127, TXT (TOMORROW X TOGETHER) and winners BTS were the first acts to be nominated for the first-ever Best K-pop Video award at the MTV Video Music Awards. In the same year, BLACKPINK were also nominated for Best Group, alongside winners BTS, while the latter picked up nominations for Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction and Best Choreography.

Since 2019, BLACKPINK have attracted nods for Best Group (2020), Group of the Year (2021–22) and Best K-pop Video (“Ice Cream”, feat. Selena Gomez; 2021).

BLACKPINK performed their single “Pink Venom” at the 2022 VMAs. They were the first female K-pop group to perform at the event, and it marked their first-ever performance at a major US awards show.
