Greatest jackpot won by a town

On 22 December 1999, the Spanish National Lottery El Gordo, (which means "The Fat One") was particularly kind to people in the southeast shoe-making town of Elche, Spain where the 1st prize number was sold, winning $263 million (£163 million) for Elche.
