The Reds were playing against the San Francisco Giants (USA) when Statcast named De La Cruz's throw the fastest-tracked assist by an infielder. He surpassed his own record of 97.9 mph (157.6 km/h), which he set on 16 July 2023.
Statcast is a tracking technology that the MLB use to measure different elements of each game, from the sprint speed of a player to the launch angle of a ball. The technology was first introduced in 2014, and by 2015, all 30 stadiums used by MLB teams had Statcast installed.
