The Taurus World Stunt Awards were inaugurated in 2001 "to honour the industry’s best and brightest stunt people for extraordinary performances in feature films". Winners are selected by the Taurus World Stunt Academy members, and are presented with the 12-kg (26-lb 7-oz) Taurus statuette.

Debbie Evans (aka Debra Evans, Debbie Evans-Leavitt) from Lakewood in California, USA, began as a Yamaha-sponsored motorcycle trials rider before performing her first movie stunt, leaping a 30-ft (9-m) ravine in for the futuristic sci-fi dystopia Deathsport (USA, 1978). She soon became one of Hollywood's most sought-after stunt performers, doubling for Michelle Rodriguez, Carrie Anne Moss and Angelina Jolie. She is an inductee of the American Motorcyclist Hall of Fame and The Hollywood Stuntman's Hall of Fame.
