Including licensed music and user-generated content, SoundCloud (Germany) boasted a catalogue of more than 300 million tracks by January 2023. Boldly claiming to be the “future of music”, the Berlin-based entertainment company has 76 million active monthly users and 30 million creators who are heard across 190 countries. SoundCloud was founded in 2007 by electronic musician Eric Wahlforss and sound designer Alexander Ljung (both Sweden) and launched in October 2008. The service is credited with kickstarting the careers of artists such as Chance the Rapper, Juice WRLD and Post Malone, who uploaded his debut single “White Iverson” (2015) to his SoundCloud account before signing a contract with Republic Records.

BTS member Jimin (South Korea, b. Park Ji-min) released his first solo single on SoundCloud on 30 December 2018. “Promise” was the platform’s most streamed track in the first 24 hours with 8.5 million plays, and it has gone on to become SoundCloud’s most popular track ever, with 327 million streams as of January 2023.
