Largest budget for an action-adventure videogame

With an estimated budget of $137.5 million (£87.4 million; €103 million), GTA V (Rockstar, 2013) is the most expensive console game ever developed (as of June 2013). While Rockstar has not disclosed details of the game’s budget, analyst Arvind Bhatia of Sterne Agee believes that a 250-strong team has worked on the title for a total of five years. As a result, the budget has rocketed past the previous record holder, Grand Theft Auto IV (Rockstar, 2008), which incurred an estimated development cost of $100 million (£63.5 million, €74.9 million).
