The tournament hit a peak viewer count of 250,730 on 8 August 2022 during the top 8 match between Derek "iDom" Ruffin (USA) and Masaki Kawano (Japan), which beat the previous record of 238,847 set at Evo 2018, according to streaming tracker Esports Charts.
Evo returned in 2022 for its first in-person event since 2019, with nearly 18,000 attending at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, and over 3.7 million people viewing the streams. The average person watched Evo 2022 online for about 82 minutes, the tournament organisers said.
More than 7000 competitors from 63 countries took part in a range of tournaments. While Street Fighter 5 was most-watched, it was followed closely by Tekken 7 (2015, Bandai Namco), which enjoyed peak viewership of 205,000.
