The oldest player to win the League of Legends (2009, Riot Games) World Championship is Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok (South Korea, b. 7 May 1996), who won the competition for the fourth time on 19 November 2023, aged 27 years 196 days.

Faker surpassed the previous record holder, Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu (South Korea, b. 23 October 1996), who won as part of Korean team DRX on 5 November 2022, aged 26 years 13 days. Given the focus on reflexes and hand-eye coordination in esports, professional gamers often retire by their mid-twenties, making Faker a veteran.

With the help of his team T1 (South Korea), formerly known as SK Telecom T1, Faker defeated Weibo Gaming (China) in the grand final at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea.

T1 hold the record for most wins of the League of Legends World Championship after placing first on four occasions: in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2023.
