Cheers (NBC, USA; 1982–93) picked up 117 Emmy nominations during its original run, along with 28 awards. It was set in a Boston bar run by former Red Sox pitcher Sam Malone (played by Ted Danson).

The series ran for 11 seasons, comprising 275 episodes. Its regular cast included Shelley Long as Sam's on-off love interest Diane, Woody Harrelson (Woody, the barman), Rhea Perlman (Carla, the barmaid), Kirstie Alley's waitress/manager Rebecca, and George Wendt and John Ratzenberger as the down-at-heel barflies Norm and Cliff respectively.

Kelsey Grammer's character, psychiatrist Dr Frasier Crane, was later given his own eponymous show, which still holds the record for most Emmy Awards for best comedy series: 37.
