McLaughlin’s run was the second-fastest qualifying four-lap run in Indy 500 history – behind only Arie Luyendyk’s average speed of 236.986 mph in 1996, which was recorded on the second day of time trials and was not eligible for pole (Luyendyk qualified in 21st place). Palou went on to record a sixth-place finish in the race on 26 May 2024, driving for Team Penske.
